My son has been on medication for ADHD for the past few months - which has helped him in sooo many ways. However; one of the side effects is lack of appetite and weight loss. I've read that 4% of children will experience these two things and my son happens to be one of them.
Since he started the medication he's lost a great amount of weight in a short period of time....
Because of the rapid loss weight, his doctor has asked that we take him off the medication for a couple of weeks so he can try and gain some weight. So we did, and its amazing how you can see the difference in him when he's not on the medication.
Unfortunately, I was told that lack of appetite which causes the weight loss is one of the side effects for all the medications for ADHD.
He's come so far in school & home, going from BAD grades to EXCELLENT grades to see him go back to his old ways....I have tried everything to get him to eat but he just doesn't have an appetite....HELP !!! Has anyone experience this or has any suggestions.
Please post your comments I want to hear from you...... Thanks
Unfortunately that side effect is the one I used to see most often. We would recommend that the parents find out a favorite food and give it to them. Even if it means they eat this most of the time. You have to combat the benefits of the medication and what will work for appetite. I will ask around for more suggestions for you.
